Stevenson Unit Release Paths

Clarence N. Stevenson Unit releases are state correctional events. TDCJ and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles control the record path. Parole means release from prison to supervision for part of the sentence. Mandatory supervision is another supervised release route governed by Texas law. Discharge generally means the sentence has been completed or terminated. These terms should not be used as if they mean the same thing.

A person may also move from Stevenson to another unit, a required program, or another authority before final release. Such a transfer ends placement at Stevenson without ending TDCJ custody. Even an approved parole case may remain in release processing or await a program. The state record must distinguish present unit, Board action, scheduled information, physical release, supervision, and discharge.

The unit’s location in DeWitt County does not mean every released person returns to DeWitt County. The approved release county, supervision assignment, county of conviction, and facility location are separate facts.

Confirm a Stevenson Unit Release

The TDCJ Inmate Information Search is useful while a person remains incarcerated. It accepts a TDCJ number or SID number, along with name and identity filters. Number-based searches reduce spelling and same-name errors. The form expressly covers people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility, so it is not a public historical database of released or discharged people.

1. Search by TDCJ or SID number when available. Otherwise use the full name and reconcile date of birth, offense, conviction county, and sentence.
2. Record the TDCJ number, current location, offense data, Projected Release Date, and parole-review information.
3. Do not call an empty later result a release. It may reflect release, a record issue, or movement outside the indexed population.
4. After the person leaves the current search, request publicly releasable admission, physical release or discharge date, release type, and processing authority through TDCJ.
5. If parole or mandatory supervision is expected in DeWitt County, ask the Victoria District Parole Office whether it is the correct operational office.

TDCJ says its public information can be about 24 hours old. Current unit location is not necessarily the future release-processing point. Stevenson Projected Release Dates

TDCJ uses the exact label “Projected Release Date.” It is a calculated marker, not an appointment at the gate. Its meaning depends on the offense date, offense type, sentence, calendar time, legally applicable good-conduct time, mandatory-supervision rules, Board action, detainers, disciplinary changes, required programs, and record corrections.

Good-conduct time affects eligibility for parole or mandatory supervision under Texas Government Code Chapters 498 and 508. It does not simply erase days from the judicial sentence. Texas also has no blanket rule that every state prisoner serves 85 percent. Some aggravated cases use actual-calendar-time formulas under Section 508.145, while other subsections, exclusions, dates, and judgment findings control different cases.

For eligible older offenses, TDCJ may use the projected field for a mandatory-supervision date if parole does not happen first. For eligible modern offenses, the Board must approve discretionary mandatory supervision. If the person is denied or ineligible, TDCJ says the field may reflect discharge. The exact case and current state record control, and physical release still needs separate confirmation.

Stevenson Parole Codes and Release

The Texas Board does not hold a conventional public hearing for ordinary parole review. A three-member panel reviews and votes the file in sequence. Two matching votes decide; otherwise the third member resolves the split. The absence of a courtroom-style hearing calendar does not mean no review is underway.

Decision codes must be read literally. FI-1 means release when eligible, not release today. FI-2 sets a future month and year. FI-3R, FI-4R, FI-6R, FI-7R, FI-9R, and FI-18R link release to identified programming and timing. FI-5 and FI-6 also use treatment pathways. RMS authorizes mandatory supervision. NR, SA, and DMS are denial or serve-all outcomes with rules for later review.

A favorable code may be reconsidered if new information arrives. Program completion, administrative processing, legal holds, and other record facts can remain between approval and departure. Release-status processing inquiries after approval use the responsible TDCJ channel, but the completed historical record remains the stronger proof.

Stevenson Unit Historical Records

TDCJ’s informal email route can provide listed information such as the TDCJ number, location, conviction data, prior incarceration history, and projected release date. Send the full name and seven-digit TDCJ number to pia@tdcj.texas.gov. Without that number, provide the exact date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction. TDCJ says this informal route does not provide photographs.

A request for the actual release event belongs in the written public-information process. Ask for “publicly releasable admission date, physical release or discharge date, release type, and the facility or authority from which release was processed.” That wording separates a completed event from a forecast.

TDCJ decides what responsive information is public. A precise request should identify the person, TDCJ number, and time period. Do not ask the DeWitt County Jail for a Stevenson release record. The county jail is a separate custodian and its Citizen Connect roster does not index Stevenson prisoners.

Clarence N. Stevenson Unit is a male Correctional Institutions Division prison. TDCJ reports that it opened in April 1994, holds G1, G2, and G4 custody levels, and has a capacity of 1,384. These are state-prison facts, not county-jail population figures.

Programs include CHANGES/Pre-Release, cognitive intervention, reentry planning, literacy, education, and vocational offerings. A program can support preparation or satisfy a Board-linked requirement, but enrollment alone does not establish an approved release or exact date. For program-linked FI codes, confirm the code, required completion, and later processing through TDCJ.

The reported capacity describes available placement, not a daily population count or release forecast. Custody levels describe institutional classification. Neither figure says how many people will leave on a given date. For one person, use the TDCJ number and individual state record instead of drawing a release conclusion from unit-wide facts.

Two DeWitt County Custody Systems

DeWitt County contains both the local DeWitt County Jail and Stevenson Unit. That makes a county-name search unusually ambiguous. The jail handles county booking and detention. Stevenson houses sentenced state prisoners under TDCJ. A county roster disappearance can mean transfer into TDCJ, while a Stevenson release is documented through state channels.

Facility location also does not prove county residence or supervision. A person convicted elsewhere can serve time at Stevenson. A DeWitt County case can send a person to another TDCJ unit. On release, TDCJ may use another processing location or approved county. Always keep facility, conviction county, release county, and supervision assignment as separate fields.
